Our Pastor

A native of the Bronx, NY, Michael-Aaron Poindexter serves as the proud Pastor of the Macedonia Baptist Church of Albany, NY.

Before transitioning to Macedonia, Pastor Poindexter served faithfully as the Minister of Community Life, Outreach, and Youth of the Metropolitan NTM Baptist Church of Albany, NY, for nine years under the leadership of his Pastor and father in ministry, Reverend Dr. Damone Paul Johnson. Pastor Poindexter preached his initial sermon on March 12, 2006, was licensed in June 2010, and ordained on August 26, 2018, at Metropolitan.

On November 14, 2020, he was appointed by God and elected by the membership of the Macedonia Baptist Church to serve as their fourth Pastor, succeeding a beloved community leader in the Capital Region and Pastor of 35 years, Reverend Leonard D. Comithier. For 11 months, Pastor Poindexter and Pastor Comithier would walk together as the leadership of Macedonia transitioned into a new season, celebrating the remarkable legacy of Pastor Comithier, and embracing the new promise of Pastor Poindexter.

Reverend Poindexter began the journey as Pastor-Elect of Macedonia in the middle of a global pandemic. Since his embarkment as Pastor, over 130 people have united with Macedonia and Macedonia has grown in finances, organization, and in ministries. Within his first few months at Macedonia, God positioned Reverend Poindexter to partner with The United States Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) and the Sweet Pilgrim Baptist Church to orchestrate mass COVID-19 vaccination efforts at the Albany Armory. Through this partnership, within five weeks and during the height of the pandemic, over 700 individuals were vaccinated in the fight against COVID-19. In 2022, God led Pastor Poindexter to institute “DREAM BIG” as Macedonia’s church theme, and currently in 2023, God is moving Macedonia from “Dreams to Reality!” as they embark upon edifice advancement, increased community impact, and Kingdom building!

While excited about the work that God has laid before him at Macedonia, Pastor Poindexter knows that his ministry preparation at Metropolitan was invaluable. Whether it was through the youth summer camp which began under his leadership and he led for 10 years, youth church that he joyfully prepared for on Sunday mornings, community impact through new partnerships, or learning from Pastor Johnson, Metropolitan provided him the space to learn, grow, and increase capacity.

While serving at Metropolitan, Pastor Poindexter also simultaneously served as the youth minister of the Riverview Missionary Baptist Church in Coeymans, NY from 2010 – 2012.

Understanding commitment to community, Pastor Poindexter serves on the Board of Directors for the American Heart Association, The United Way of the Greater Capital Region, and the Regional Foodbank of Northeastern New York. By profession, he is a corporate executive at a local financial institution and prior to his current position, he joyfully worked with students and families in the City School District of Albany for seven years.

He has earned a Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A.) from the State University of New York - University at Albany (2009), a Master of Divinity degree (M.Div.) from The United Theological Seminary of Dayton, OH (2014), and a Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) from his alma mater, UAlbany (2023).

He and his beautiful wife Amber have been together since college and are the proud parents of one son and three daughters. The Poindexter family loves pizza, vacations, and are ALL New York Knick Fans!
