Our Pastor

Reverend Michael-Aaron Poindexter, a native of the Bronx, NY, has served as the Pastor of the Macedonia Baptist Church of Albany, NY, since January 2021. 

 

On November 14, 2020, he was appointed by God and elected by the membership of the Macedonia Baptist Church to serve as their fourth Pastor, succeeding a beloved community leader and Pastor of thirty-five years, Reverend Leonard D. Comithier, Jr. For 11 months, Pastor Poindexter and Pastor Comithier would walk together as the leadership of Macedonia transitioned into a new season, celebrating the remarkable legacy of Pastor Comithier, and embracing the new promise of Pastor Poindexter. 

 

Before transitioning to Macedonia, Pastor Poindexter served faithfully in various ministerial assignments focused on youth, community, and outreach at the Metropolitan NTM Baptist Church of Albany, NY, which prepared him for the pastoral ministry. It was at Metropolitan that he accepted Christ, was baptized, commenced his preaching ministry, and was mentored by his father in ministry, Rev. Dr. Damone Paul Johnson. While serving at Metropolitan, Pastor Poindexter dually served as the youth minister of the Riverview Church in Coeymans, NY, from 2010 – 2012. 

 

Reverend Poindexter's academic journey is a testament to his commitment to learning and growth. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Social Work degree from the State University of New York - University at Albany and is a New York State licensed master social worker (LMSW). In 2014, he earned a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree from The United Theological Seminary of Dayton, OH. 

 

Pastor Poindexter's commitment to community engagement is evident in his various roles. He currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors for the American Heart Association, and as Chair of the Community Investment and Impact Committee for the Board of Directors for the United Way of the Greater Capital Region. His previous roles include serving on the Board of Directors of the Regional Foodbank of Northeastern New York and becoming the Chief Program Officer of the same organization.

 

Rev. Poindexter and his beautiful bride, Amber, are the proud parents of four young children: Ashton, Makena, Malia, and Maziyah.
